Scheduling & Priority

Campaign Expiry and Auto-Deactivation

4 min read

If you set a Campaign end date, Notifal stops linked notifications from showing after that moment. The campaign list then shows an Ended badge. This guide explains what happens automatically and how to start again.

For setting dates, see Campaign Schedule and Timezone.

What happens when the end date passes

Once the current time is past Campaign end:

  1. The campaign status badge changes to Ended in the list
  2. Linked notifications stop showing on the front end, even if:
  3. - Each notification's Status is still on, and
  4. - Campaign active is still on
  5. Your notification settings are not deleted. Only the schedule blocks them.

Visitors simply stop seeing those notifications until you fix the schedule or unlink them.

Automatic check (about once per hour)

Notifal runs a background task about once per hour to find campaigns whose end date has passed and mark them Ended.

What this means for youDetail
Small delay is normalA campaign may show Active for a short time right after the end moment until the next check runs
Front end is still blockedVisitors are not shown linked notifications once the end time passes, even before the badge updates
No manual step requiredYou do not need to open each campaign to close it

You do not need to configure this task. It runs while Notifal is active on your site.

Ended vs Paused

These look similar on the front end (notifications do not show) but mean different things:

StateHow you got thereBadge in listClick to toggle?
PausedYou turned Campaign active offPausedYes
EndedThe end date passedEndedNo

A paused campaign can go live again with one click. An ended campaign needs a schedule change in the editor.

See Campaign Status and Linked Notifications.

When you open an ended campaign, a notice appears at the top:

> This campaign has ended. Set the end date to a future moment and save to clear the ended state and run notifications again.

Follow that guidance to reopen the window.

How to run an ended campaign again

  1. Go to Notifal → Campaigns and open the ended campaign.
  2. Set a new end date in the future (or adjust both start and end for a new promo period).
  3. Confirm Campaign active is on.
  4. Click Save Campaign.

The Ended badge clears when the new schedule is valid and the end is in the future.

Also confirm each linked notification still has Status on.

No end date? No automatic expiry

If you left Campaign end empty:

  • The campaign does not auto-end
  • It runs until you pause it, delete it, or set an end date later

What about notification schedules?

Linked notifications do not get their own end date back automatically. The campaign still controls the window.

To move a notification out of an ended campaign:

  1. Open the notification → General tab.
  2. Set Campaign to No Campaign.
  3. Save.
  4. Enable Enable Schedule on the Timing tab if you want per-notification dates.

See Linking a Notification to a Campaign.

Analytics after a campaign ends

Past impressions and clicks for linked notifications remain in On-Page Analytics. Filter by campaign to review the full promo period. See On-Page Analytics Dashboard.
