Linking a Notification to a Campaign

3 min read

A campaign groups one or more notifications under a shared schedule and priority. When you link a notification to a campaign, the campaign's dates control when that notification can run.

This guide covers linking from the notification editor. You can also assign notifications from the campaign editor under Notifal → Campaigns.

When to use a campaign

SituationUse a campaign?
One notification, simple start/end datesOptional. You can use the Timing tab schedule instead.
Several notifications that share the same date windowYes
You want one place to pause or manage a promo periodYes
Rotating multiple notifications in sequenceYes (with Pro and campaign priority)
  1. Open the notification in the editor.
  2. Go to the General tab.
  3. Find the Campaign dropdown.
  4. Choose a campaign, or No Campaign to unlink.
  5. Click Save Notification.

The notification is now tied to that campaign's schedule.

What happens to the Timing tab schedule

When a campaign is linked:

  • The notification's own Enable Schedule option in the Timing tab is turned off.
  • A message on the Timing tab explains that the campaign controls the schedule.
  • Start and end dates come from the campaign settings.

To use per-notification dates again, set Campaign back to No Campaign and enable Enable Schedule on the Timing tab. See Schedule Windows (Start/End Dates).

Status still matters

Linking to a campaign does not automatically publish the notification. You still need:

  1. Enable Notification turned on (or Status on in the list), and
  2. The campaign set to active, and
  3. The current date within the campaign schedule (if dates are set)

See Understanding Notification Status.

Create a campaign first

If the dropdown is empty:

  1. Go to Notifal → Campaigns.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Set the campaign name, schedule, and linked notifications.
  4. Return to your notification and select the new campaign in the General tab.
  1. Open the notification → General tab.
  2. Set Campaign to No Campaign.
  3. Save.

The notification keeps its other settings. Only the campaign link is removed.
