The product pool supplies WooCommerce product data to tags like {product_name}, {product_price}, and {product_image}.
See What Is Content Source? and WooCommerce Product and Order Tags.
Requires WooCommerce. Setup: WooCommerce Setup for Notifal.
When you need a product pool
Your template includes product tags. Notifal detects them on the Content Source tab after you select a template.
Common templates: "Trending now", "On sale today", featured product popups.
How Notifal picks a product
- Builds a pool of products that match your filters
- Caches the pool briefly for performance
- Picks a random product from the pool for each show (unless Smart Targeting or cart rules narrow it)
If the pool is empty (no product matches your filters), Notifal does not show the notification on the frontend at all. This prevents visitors from seeing broken text or empty tags. Use filters that match your catalog size.
Restriction ideas
| Goal | Filter approach |
|---|---|
| Only sale items | Sale status filter |
| Specific category | Category filter |
| Featured catalog | Featured products filter |
| New arrivals | Date range filter |
| High-end items | Custom meta or price-related filters |
Full filter list: Content Source Filters.
Pair with Smart Targeting (Pro)
On a product page, Smart Targeting can prefer the product being viewed, then widen to related categories. See Smart Targeting (Pro).
Tips
- Start with broad filters, test on the front end, then narrow down.
- Turn off Show duplicate source if visitors see repeats too often (see What Is Content Source?).
- Use Retrigger Variants to rotate different products on the same page without refresh.
